Synopsis

Eileen spends years believing Lucian saved her life, a conviction that shapes how she relates to him and how she positions herself within her family. The truth, once uncovered, is worse than being ignored: she was never the one being protected. Vera had been using her as a human shield the entire time. Instead of breaking under the weight of that betrayal, Eileen moves fast. She engineers a marriage swap on the day everything is supposed to be decided, redirecting Vera toward danger while she herself agrees to wed Edward, a man the rest of her world dismisses as broken and beneath her. What no one around her accounts for is what Edward actually holds. By the time Lucian works out who truly saved him and what he walked away from, Eileen has already climbed to the top of the empire.
