The story does not open on revenge, it opens on a death. Elena is the rightful gold-blood heir, but Veronica, her sister, and Grayson, the man she was promised to, swap her golden dragon egg for a black one, brand her a failure, and hurl her into the pit. She remembers all of it when she wakes again at the very ceremony where her ruin began. No hesitation follows. Instead of clinging to the family that betrayed her, Elena turns to Nidhogg, the Dragon Progenitor everyone keeps locked away in dread, and chooses to tie herself to him. The pact starts as nothing but survival math, then warms into real attachment, and with every step forward, Veronica's hidden truth and Grayson's actual loyalty get exposed bit by bit.
