Synopsis

Inside a wealthy Athenian household, Irene is the daughter nobody values, and on the day a marriage is arranged, her scheming stepsister twists the ceremony so that Irene ends up bound to a broke street musician while the better prospect goes to the stepsister herself. The whole family mocks her for the ruined match. None of them suspect that the shabby husband beside her is Apollo, god of light, walking among mortals with his true nature concealed. Every time her relatives try to grind her down, they are unknowingly testing the patience of a divine being who sees each cruelty inflicted on the woman he has claimed as his own. That distance between the beggar they scorn and the power he really holds is the fuse the whole plot burns toward.
